It’s all about whirling in tropical destination, walking with sandy toes, staying by the beach, and paddling your surfboard to that thrilling waves while getting under the sun all day long. What’s not to love? However, anyone who has tried surfing know that’s it’s a challenging sport that need precise judgement and excellent body coordination and balance. Surfing is that kind of sport that you can’t simply learn by yourself. That’s why many surf camps are full booked around the summer. Everybody wants to be a cool surfer by the end of the summer. Sometimes, Bikinis Are Not Enough for A Surf Camp

Yes, pro female surfers looks badass riding that waves in bikini. But that doesn’t mean you can copying her on surf camp lesson without getting a severe sunburn. Many beginners get fooled that bikinis and shorts are just enough for surfing. They think surfing is just like any other beach activity. Spoiler alert: it’s way more intense that your regular beach leisure. It’s a hard work and you are going to be in the water and under the sun, a lot. The water can get colder than the air, while prolonged exposure to the sun is a sure recipe for sunburn. So while shorts and bikini look good on the water, they can’t protect you against anything. 

That You Don’t Need to Be in A Rush to Buy Wet Suit

Some people just love to prepare the best for everything. While it’s good that you know that you’ll need wetsuit for surfing, you don’t actually need to buy it. Know that your surf camp will have a wide selection of wetsuit you can rent. You can take this as a chance to know which wet suits from which brands you really want before buying one.

That Surf Camp is Not All about Hitting the Water

You might think that surf camp is all about hitting the water and catching the waves. But surprisingly, you will spend mote time on the land than on the water. Before actually going to the water, you will learn every science you need to know about surfing. You will learn the correct body position on the surfboard which mostly done in the beach. Staying on the land is easier to practice surfer’s pop up motion and let your body remember it. On the land, you will learn about the tides, the wind, and which tides are suitable for beginners. So when it’s time for you to get into the water, you will have memorise all the position and science, and put your focus on balancing and catching the waves. 

That It’s Okay if You Don’t Get Up in the First Try

It’s okay. Most of us set a high expectation for ourselves when we come to a surf camp. We think it would be a waste if we can’t even stand up in surf board on the end of the first try. But actually, most of us don’t. It takes more than one try to finally be able to balancing your body and maintaining balance when you finally catch the waves. If you fall, that’s totally okay. Just get used to it and you’ll find your rhythm at the end.  

That Your Body Will Feel A Lot of Sore

Don’t get surprised if you wake up feeling sore at random places in the next day. That’s absolutely normal. Your arms will feel like jelly from all that paddling and your body feel sore from hitting the waves all the time yesterday. Pressing the body to surf board and maintaining the upward position might cause your hip bones to feel sore, too. Have a light yoga or stretching after waking up to help you relieve the muscle pain.
