Paying for a tattoo deposit is common practice, just like anywhere else

Tattoo deposit is common everywhere in Bali. When you consult and have decided to book, you’ll usually be asked to pay a non-refundable deposit to ensure that you’ll show up during the day of your tattoo appointment. It’s noteworthy that the amount of the deposit may vary depending on the tattoo design itself.

If your artist or your tattoo parlor does not charge you a deposit, then you’ll need to wonder if they’re complete newbies or if they’re just in for a quick buck and they don’t care whether you show up or not. Or that the slot you’ve booked may just be snatched at a moment’s notice by, say, someone who showed up 10 minutes before you did.

Cheap tattoo is a red flag. But in Bali, how cheap is too cheap?

Aside from the tattoo deposit that’s charged before you show up during your appointment, the bare minimum tattoo studios and artists charge in Bali is usually 500,000,- IDR. This equals to approximately 350 USD or 517 AUD (in this case, Australian dollars is more stable against Indonesian Rupiah compared to USD).

It’s imperative that you pay with Indonesian Rupiah (IDR)

The Indonesian government does not accept any other currency for payment, and expect that your Bali tattoo place will do the same. Many places accept credit and debit cards. • Canggu. An up and coming place in Bali, known for its sweeping ricefields and hip cafes.
  • Seminyak. The more upscale neighborhood of Kuta and Legian
  • Sanur. An area in Denpasar, close to the heart of the city where locals reside.
