There are many things can happen when you run your own business. Besides, business is risky at it is, so of course crisis is something to be expected no matter how reluctant you feel about it. There are many types of crisis that may happen to your business. Some of them are unpredicted while the others are to be expected. Crisis also can happen to any kind of business whether large or small one. Some crisis can be internal and some others come from external factors. Both need to be addressed properly and immediately because they may do more harm in the future if they are ignored.

The most appropriate thing to do to manage crisis is to make crisis management team. They will be able to address the crisis properly and help you manage it properly. By forming crisis management team, you have people to help you out managing the crisis without causing further damage to your company or people involved. When crisis happen in your company, you have to designate crisis management team immediately and let them take over. Do not allow any other people in your company to handle it or speak to the media. Your crisis management team has designated spokesperson to speak to media if needed so there is no need for other people to do it.

It is important for you to present a calm, and compassionate face when addressing the media or public. Telling the truth to the public and media is the right way to address the crisis because concealing it will only cause further problems in the future. Of course, you have to address the problems in advance with your crisis management team so you are on the same page of what to do to manage the crisis properly in current situation. It can be challenging to face your customers, clients, and media, and public in general when your reputable business is struggling from a crisis. However, denying them will only form hostility coming from customers and public.

During the crisis, there are things you need to expect including constant questions from the media as well as disappointed customers. However, remember that those are natural reactions from them. What you and your company should do is to act in responsible manner. Their strong reactions will fade away eventually. It is important to give immediate, honest, and full disclosure response when facing a crisis while running your business. Then, you have to follow the principles of crisis management you have established with appointed team. It can help quicken the recovery process. Thus, trust and credibility will be restored.
