If you have two things in common with us, tattoo and traveling, then you’ll know that Bali is considered to be one of the most popular destinations of traveling tattoo artists, and in turn, those of tattoo collectors as well. The tropical destination is well-loved by those who love the art of tattooing. And Bali is known as a place where everything seems so cheap. But is it true? How much does it actually cost getting a tattoo in Bali? We’ve compiled some of the essential information to shed light on tattoo prices in Bali hope you’ll find it helpful!
Paying for a tattoo deposit is common practice, just like anywhere else
Tattoo deposit is common everywhere in Bali. When you consult and have decided to book, you’ll usually be asked to pay a non-refundable deposit to ensure that you’ll show up during the day of your tattoo appointment. It’s noteworthy that the amount of the deposit may vary depending on the tattoo design itself.
If your artist or your tattoo parlor does not charge you a deposit, then you’ll need to wonder if they’re complete newbies or if they’re just in for a quick buck and they don’t care whether you show up or not. Or that the slot you’ve booked may just be snatched at a moment’s notice by, say, someone who showed up 10 minutes before you did.
Cheap tattoo is a red flag. But in Bali, how cheap is too cheap?
Aside from the tattoo deposit that’s charged before you show up during your appointment, the bare minimum tattoo studios and artists charge in Bali is usually 500,000,- IDR. This equals to approximately 350 USD or 517 AUD (in this case, Australian dollars is more stable against Indonesian Rupiah compared to USD).
If you’re doing a tiny tattoo that only takes a very short a mount of time, you may only pay a smaller amount of deposit. The total amount may or may not exceed 500,000,- IDR. Every tattoo studio or artists charge differently. Remember that this is the bare minimum of payment. If there are any tattoo parlors or artists that charge you prices that seem too good to be true, then it probably is.
Bali tattoo prices: many tattoo studios or parlors in Bali charge by the hour
In Bali, both tattoo artists and tattoo studios often charge by the hour, just like in many other places. Of course, some places would charge differently, such as by design complexity, and other considerations. Charging by the hour is common practice, but make sure that you consult your tattoo studio first and foremost for the most accurate pricing scheme.
It’s imperative that you pay with Indonesian Rupiah (IDR)
The Indonesian government does not accept any other currency for payment, and expect that your Bali tattoo place will do the same. Many places accept credit and debit cards.
